The second Aquahive® to be installed in Norway

In June 2010 Shellfish Hatchery Systems Ltd. installed the second 6-cylinder Aquahive® for the lobster hatchery in Norway.

Due to the success of the first Aquahive® installed earlier in the year, Production Manager Sven Arild Korsvoll commissioned the installation of the second Aquahive® to meet the production targets for the 2010 season. The Aquahive® was installed over 3 days and commissioned. We also introduced the innoculum bacteria into the bio-filters, and the Aquahive® was in use 5 days later. Earlier in the year comparisons had been made between the traditional tray system which had previously been installed at the Norwegian lobster hatchery and the new Aquahive®. The main reason for the choice of Aquahive® was to increase survivability - however there was also a significant improvement in growth between the Aquahive® and the tray. Within the shipment of the Aquahive® we also supplied extra Aquahive® trays and skeleton trays for release. As the production facility is located approximately 350km from the sea-ranching site, the larvae are transported within the Aquahive® trays to be released by the fishermen.

During the installation of the Aquahive® we had a surprise visitor – despite being this far north we had a Viviparous lizard (Zootoca vivipara) pay the hatchery a visit, who took a particular liking to one of the Aquahive® trays that probably felt warmer than the concrete floor!
